[Neil Scott, in blue suit and blue checked shirt, is standing in front of a school sign]
NS: Obviously, it's one of the original Henry Bastow buildings –
[St Kilda Park Primary School building]
NS: beautiful red brick building that's been added to a lot since then. It's on the Heritage Register as being of statewide significance.
[St Kilda Park Primary School building shown from drone angles]
NS: So there's a huge responsibility that comes with that to obviously be the custodian
[Principal Scott with school sign]
NS: and make sure it's looking and working well.
[On-screen text: Tanya Tuke Senior Manager Maintenance Delivery Team, VSBA]
[St Kilda Park Primary School with Tanya Tuke in white suit jacket and black top standing in front of the school]
Tanya Tuke: Our role as the Maintenance Unit was in to advocate for the school and
[St Kilda Park Primary School building]
TT: to go to our funding partners and also to the executives to show them that, you know, we're fully satisfied with the scope of work that we're putting forward to make sure that the school was able to
[St Kilda Park Primary School in background with Tanya Tuke in foreground]
TT: access that funding and the works could be completed.
[Principal Scott with school sign]
NS: We were obviously overjoyed and really happy that we were going to get the maintenance
[Various camera angles of school’s roof]
NS: and the work and the scope expanded to include a full roof replacement. We worked with the VSBA and
[Principal Scott with school sign]
NS: the architect and the builder to come up with a phased plan. So the roof was done in 3 stages,
[Inside a classroom]
NS: so we never lost more than 2 classrooms at a time.
TT: Building strong stakeholder relationships
[St Kilda Park Primary School in background with Tanya Tuke in foreground]
TT: is really important to
[Principal Scott and Tanya from the VSBA inside a classroom looking up at the roof and chatting] running a job, particularly a job of this size. There was a lot of discussion between the project officer, myself
[St Kilda Park Primary School in background with Tanya Tuke in foreground]
TT: and the architect to make sure that – and the builder that
[Principal Scott and Tanya in the school’s courtyard look up to the roof and chat]
TT: won the tender – to make sure that we're all on the same page.
[Various camera angles of school’s roof]
TT: So there was a lot of engagement at that stage.
[Various camera angles of school’s roof]
TT: Having those early conversations may have paid off because the construction
[St Kilda Park Primary School in background with Tanya Tuke in foreground]
TT: seemed to go quite smoothly.
[Principal Scott with school sign]
NS: Right from the start of the process we had our own thoughts
[Main entrance to school building]
NS: and our own requests, and there were times where we
[Historic school sign displayed]
NS: made suggestions and requested additions
[Inside a classroom]
NS: to the scope. And it was nice that they were taken on board.
TT: For the VSBA
[St Kilda Park Primary School in background with Tanya Tuke in foreground]
TT: we want to preserve these buildings, we want them to shine,
[Various camera angles of school’s roof]
TT: we want the parents and the community to be proud of the school that they're attending.
[Inside a classroom]
NS: The spaces inside the school no longer have water leaks. There's no longer the risk of, you know, peeling paintwork.
[Principal Scott with school sign]
NS: So that's great. It looks amazing, you know, it's helped to build pride
[Various camera angles of school’s roof]
NS: from students and families in the school,
[Inside a classroom]
NS: which is great. And the number of comments we've had
[Principal Scott and Tanya in a stairwell look up to the roof]
NS: from within the community, but also just people, you know, in
[School art is displayed]
[On-screen text: Creativity Resilience Kindness Curiosity News]
NS: St Kilda, passers-by who've noticed the work
[Principal Scott with school sign]
NS: that's happened and see what how great that looks. So, yeah, that's that's a really great outcome.
[Main school building from various angles]
TT: Architecturally, it's a magnificent building and I'm glad that we've been a part of restoring history.
[St Kilda Park Primary School in background with Tanya Tuke in foreground]
TT: I love it. I just I can't believe the result.
[School building shown from various angles]
TT: It's a fantastic looking building. It's just an amazing result, and the school is very happy with that. No more roof leaks. And how amazing does it look?
